How do I create a way to weight the grip of a rod I’m using to practice lightsaber technique?

Xinro asked:

I’m trying to practice lightsaber techniques with a dowel rod that I cut down, but it doesn’t have the proper weight in the grip of it to balance correctly. How could I create a weighting for it? I’m pretty sure the rod is one inch in diameter.

Also, do you know of any good sites for lightsaber technique other than Youtube?
It’s not hollow – it’s solid wood.

    is the tube hollow?

you may try filling it with sand, salt, etc

chanbara is sport weaponry, where real strikes are practiced w/ padded weapons- you might look into classes; in the intro lesson i took we went over strikes, parries, and blocks

What you could try to do is find a load of washers with one inch openings in the middle (don’t know how common they are, you might have to look around or find something similar) and line them up on the end of the rod. Glue them there, duct tape them, something. Or, if worse comes to worse, you could always take a heavier block of wood, drill an inch-wide hole down the middle, and shape it until it’s the shape and size you want.

I’m sure you’ll find similar techniques in several kinds of martial arts. Go join a group, and you’ll learn both how to defend yourself and some techniques you could use with your homemade lightsaber! It takes time and practice, though. Then again, it will take time and practice whatever way you go.
