How to make Light Sabers — CF Wiring Guide (part IV)

Part IV of IV Plecterlabs Crystal Focus Wiring Guide Ok… so if you REALLY watched ALL the videos, now you REALLY can wire up your CF and REALLY have fun with your light sabers! :) Hope it helps some folks out there who are newer to LED sabers, Crystal Focus, Li-Ion batteries, and soldering in general. If you have questions, feel free to post or message me–but please study up a bit first before asking a question that would easily be answered by a little homework. Take care and have fun with your lightsabers… –Novastar

where do u find these boards

  • greytale

    plecter labs
:) Although… since they are hand made, they aren’t easily found, and right now there isn’t an upcoming batch… yet.

  • gunbladeexpert

    Great thanks a lot man
    =D

  • Zykrozek

is it the same for ultrasound?

  • greytale

    Is what the same…

  • zykrinnox

    let me rephrase it question

Is the CF wiring same as ultrasound wiring except for the kill switch/pin

  • greytale

No, as they are completely different boards. However–they will naturally have some similar properties going on… LED +, LED -… battery +, battery -, etc.

So… in some ways, yes, in other ways… no. :)

  • DragonKid562

so how do u put that in the handle thingy

  • MegaHootowl

It is too advanced for me! : P

  • SannoSythe

Ashamed to say it but you lost me with the motor…What was it going to be used for?

  • greytale

Oops… sorry Sanno, I never got to your question.

The motor is meant to be fastened to the hilt/chassis of the saber, and when applied correctly in the electronics… it acts a nice “vibration motor”, where the saber feels nice and “alive” when you hold it.

A good comparison would be the common thing with video game controllers–’force feedback’? :) Or like a pager motor. They “tremble”, heheh.

can you use a SD card

  • greytale

An SD card is precisely what has been used in Crystal Focus for several years (since 2006/2007).

Newer versions (v4.x) utilize a microSD.

  • MsRolly2009

hi ive built my own lightsaber do you or do you know of any place to buy ready to use complete soundboards thanks
    appreciate any help

  • greytale

@MsRolly… custom soundboards are a bit tough to find at the present time, but more Crystal Focus boards will be made in the months to come. Only a question of time. Unfortunately, these boards are NOT made by a “giant factory”… only my French buddy, Erv Plecter! :)

How did you get the sounds on the CF bord?

Is there a different source of the sound?

Does it matter what spot you connect the wires on the L.E.D light and the cannon 2.1 millimeter port?

Is there different kinds of CF bords I should know of that have different wire set ups?

How much is it going to cost me if I own none of the stuff to make a lightsabor?

Should I where a mask for some of the set up?

  • greytale

@deathnote… that’s a LOT of question, lol… I’ll try to do my best to be brief, as these questions would be best asked in private. Let’s see…
    ~SD or microSD card
    ~Yes–it matters.
~Yes, different versions of CF boards… but no, they aren’t really different for wiring (95% same)
    ~It depends.
~You do not need a mask.

    Happy holidays!

These videos are great and I think will help me a lot.

Questions for you Novastar, what LED did you use for this?

No need for any resistors or anything?

  • greytale

@JckDnl74… sorry for the late response. This LED was a Luxeon “K2″ Green.

It is (currently) no special kind of LED–at least when compared to the standards out there. :) You could use a Luxeon III green… a Seoul P4 green… or even a LEDEngin LED.

incredible recommendations – thanks!, have any of you tried Max factor’s new product line?? it’s hard to get decent makeup in Mitchell Heights yet you can obtain stunning samples of makeup by checking out “GratisMakeupSamples”! their cool!

  • Marlunus

If you’re using a 7.2v battery pack that has a PCB with a Lux 3 LED, do you need resistors?

  • greytale

    @Marlunus… No.

Not if you’re using the Crystal Focus board. This board controls the current (which can be set from 0A to 1.5A) that is sent to the LED. Any excess/”unused” voltage from the battery pack will simply add to the overall runtime of all the components running under CF.

Within reason of course. :) You cannot feed the board more than 11v (just as an FYI)…

  • coraliehkmcg

awe-inspiring recommendations. thank you!, has anyone tested Maybelline’s new product line?? its difficult to get hold of make-up in Anderson but you can obtain some magnificent samples using “GratisMakeupSamples”, there ace!

  • ruthiemelpf

striking techniques- cheers!, any of you used Revlons new line of products?? it’s quite hard to obtain good makeup in Bells but you can obtain brilliant samples of make-up via “GratisMakeupSamples”, theyre cool.

  • adiabaticil

You are unbelievably gorgeous, many thanks for your video clip. it can be sad im living within Fillmore mainly because i can not end up getting excellent make-up, on the other hand i get hold of 100 percent free trials through ‘Gratis Makeup Samples’. i really like Rimmel make-up!
