Custom LED Lightsaber – Perseverance

My third lightsaber, named Perseverance. Uses two 3.7 volt AA rechargable batteries, 2004 Master Replicas Mace Windu sound card, and a blue Seoul P4 LED. Also has internal kill switch and indicator LED. Hilt by The Custom Saber Shop. Narrated by me, guest starring my cat, Buster.

    Kant… just to be certain: you DO know that the MR board cannot handle 7.2v… right?

    And… if you’re feeding the MR board 7.2v… NORMALLY it would die… so… are you regulating the voltage somehow? ***OR*** are you running the battery cells for the CURRENT…?? which would yield 3.7v but double the capacity…

    Anyhow… I’m guessing the latter–in which case, it’s unlikely you’re “horribly” underpowering the Seoul LED.

    Actually, the only thing between the two 14500 cells and the board is wiring. There is a split to a resistored accent LED. Plus it’s a Mace board, which used six AA cells originally, so maybe that has something to do with it. Or maybe I just got an uber board. I do plan to run some tests on it using a breadboard and wall supply for power and see if I can figure the forward voltage before I go plugging in a new 18650 pack. Plus, I have… other plans. Mwahaha.

    Kant… just as FYI… *NO*, the six-battery MR pack still provides only 4.5v… it’s just double the current.

    My guess is that if you used a multimeter to check the battery voltage, your pack is probably providing ~3.8v with double the runtime… a decent setup for the Seoul + MR.

    Hm. I’ll have to check that. On the flip side, I may have found a source for 14650 cells that are rated at almost double the mAh. Ordering now; hopefully I’ll get them quick and we’ll see how it works.

    Do you mean 14500 cells? If so… there is almost no way that they could have double the capacity of an 18650 cell… :)

    However, a decent “standard” for 18650s is ~2200mAh to ~2600mAh. For 14500s I don’t know for sure, but around 1000mAh would be very good.

    Actually, I really did mean 14650s. I was searching, thinking 14500s, but somehow put 14650 into Google and never noticed. They’re the same size as the 14500s, but have about 1600 mAh at the same voltage as the 14500s. So this should at least help address the runtime issue I’ve been hitting. Still want to try and figure out the resistor I need to run an MR board in parallel with a Corbin board at 7.4V – just need the forward voltage and amperage numbers off of the MR board.

    We should probably be doing this discussion in PM (so as not to muck up your video thread!!)… but…

    Ok… I hear you–14650s with 1600mAh… just be *CAREFUL* about whether or not these are rechargeable or not. Gravy and I ran into a pair of Li-Ions that looked identical to 14500s… but they are NOT RECHARGEABLE. It would be easy to mistake these… and disastrous if recharged… :)
